Caitlin's Story
For my year abroad, I went to Federation University, Australia. A year abroad is something I have wanted to do since I was about 16, and when considering universities, I knew I had to choose one that offered a year abroad placement. At the information meeting at the beginning of my Second year, I realised just how easy and affordable the year abroad would be, and as soon as I heard that Australia was one of Chester’s partnership universities I was sold.
The whole process of applying was relatively straightforward and easy, and once I earned my place on the programme it felt like a dream come true. The study abroad team were so helpful in answering my questions, making sure all my documents were correct and helping me change my information with student finance. Whilst I was away, they were also on hand to answer any questions I had or any worries that came up.
Over my year abroad I have met so many wonderful, amazing people and got to witness the true Australian culture. Whilst a lot of it lives up to its stereotype, there are parts that aren’t mentioned, so, for example, how friendly and welcoming everyone is. This attitude really helped me to feel safe and welcome in a country that when you first arrive can seem incredibly foreign. It also enabled me to have an amazing time, make new friends, and gain more confidence in myself and my abilities.
This experience has helped me with my future career aspirations hugely. Before going abroad, I had no clue what I wanted to do with the rest of my life once I graduated. Whilst abroad, I took a range of business classes. These classes and my lecturers have given me a passion for Business Psychology, so I now know what I want to do in the future.
