Induction Process

The University recognises that the implementation of good induction practice by line managers/supervisors within Faculties and departments will:

  • Enable new staff to settle into the University quickly and become productive and efficient members of staff within a short period of time;
  • Ensure that new staff are highly motivated and that this motivation is reinforced;
  • Ensure that staff operate in a safe working environment;

University Induction Programmes

New members of staff will receive an invitation from HR to attend the next available Corporate Induction Programme.  Managers are responsible for allowing new staff time to attend the induction programme.  The probationary period should only be signed off if the new member of staff has attended, or has booked to attend the induction programme.

Completing the Induction Process

The timescale for the completion of the induction process will vary depending on the role and the individual, but all of the key items on the Induction checklist should be completed within the first 3 months. Providing the new employee with the opportunity and framework to ask questions is vital and the induction checklist gives this opportunity.
