Valuable guidance on creating a viable business model and a unique selling point helped company to move forward

English/French translation services to solicitors in the UK acting for French speaking clients are offered by La Difference Translation Services Ltd. The 12-year-old business is owned by Isabelle Sommeil-Hornby, who worked in the corporate world before deciding to set up a business specialising in something she enjoys doing for a living, rather than merely working for a living.

Business plan development

Isabelle, who is Guadeloupean French, wanted to develop a business plan and focus on her product offer; she also needed to develop her website and grow her brand. With these aims, she signed up to the Business Growth Programme in March 2020 on the back of a referral from the Cheshire and Warrington Growth Hub.

Virtual support

Isabelle received one-to-one support delivered via telephone and email during the summer of 2020 which helped with business planning. She was also signposted to resources and tools and took part in online workshops and the Business Bootcamp from May 12th to June 4th 2020.

Branding and USP focus

Isabelle commented: “I received tips on how to define my ideal client and a guide on how to create a viable business model. I have made supportive connections within the group and have been introduced to other people who have helped with my website and with using social platforms. I continue to receive information on workshops and events that might be of interest.

“The Bootcamp was particularly good; I enjoyed the interaction with the other participants. I have implemented a few of the tips I learned in the training sessions - the main one is to have a unique selling point and a unique brand, and I have designed a new logo to better fit my brand.

“The University of Chester connection was helpful as the course takes place within a learning environment. I am now in the process of starting another business around empowering women of colour like myself through confidence building to live happy and healthy lives.”
