Increased demand during lockdown creates opportunity for marketing agency

Founded 14 years ago, MediaGuru Ltd. has grown from being a small PR company into a complete digital marketing agency specialising in the production of animation and videos. The creative business delivers social media marketing campaigns, graphic and branding solutions and digital communication strategies for clients and integrated PR services.

Clients include large corporations such as Sodexo, Skyscanner, Trustpilot and MPS along with SME’s, charities, social enterprises and community interest companies.

Founder Christina O’Connor graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA in Theology followed by an MA in Broadcast Journalism. She started her career at the BBC as a newsreader and reporter in local radio, moving to Radio 4 and Radio 2 before becoming a producer on BBC Breakfast. She is a mother of five and loves food and wine!

Aim to grow online offering

Christina came to the Business Growth Programme (BGP) seeking support to expand her business; she wanted to prioritise sales opportunities and clarify the future direction for MediaGuru. The use of online services increased massively during lockdowns and Christina believes this trend will continue, creating an opportunity to reach new markets. She aims to promote MediaGuru’s products such as innovative video e-learning, corporate video production, training in video production and video blogging to these new markets. Christina said: “Being unable to trade in the traditional sense has been a catalyst in driving digital transformation and where one door has closed, this nation of shopkeepers has forced another to open. Thousands of businesses are making the most of the tremendous opportunity that growing demand for online shopping is creating and we are experiencing business requests for innovative, creative content for a new online presence.”

She joined the BGP in December 2019 after attending a University of Chester industry collaboration event.

Learning from others

Christina attended workshops, masterclasses and benefited from `brilliant’ one-to-one support from Heather Carroll. She commented: “The support has been wonderful, it has taught us to think big, to collaborate and learn from others. It has also improved our in-house skills.”

Proven progress

Since starting the BGP, MediaGuru Ltd. has experienced around 15% growth, it has increased its bank of freelancers and is considering taking on a placement student or apprentice.

Award winner

MediaGuru Ltd. won the Best Media Production Company award in the 2020 SME Northern Enterprise Awards.
