The University has three key Workplace Experiences available to businesses. Further information about these opportunities can be found by accessing our guide for Employers.

Santander Universities Project Placement Scholarships

  • SMEs, start-ups, sole traders and partnerships are eligible
  • Suitable for all current students and recent graduates
  • Duration – minimum of 70 hours and maximum of 108 hours, full-time (maximum 35 hours per week) or part-time options are available
  • Students or graduates will be awarded a £1000 scholarship

Inspiring Futures Placements

  • SMEs, Charities and non-profits are eligible
  • Suitable for eligible students from under-represented groups only
  • Duration – 175 hours (roughly equates to 5 weeks full time) part-time options are also available
  • Total pay to student is £1,575 of which the full amount is funded through the programme.

Graduate Internships

  • SME’s, charities and non-profits are eligible
  • Suitable for graduates only
  • Duration – 365 hours (roughly equates to 10 weeks full time)
  • Total pay to student is £3770.45 of which the full amount is funded through the programme
  • Suitable graduates will be sourced via our Graduate Head Start programme.

Terms and Conditions

  1. You must, as the employer, provide the student or graduate with a contract of employment, suitable to the length of their Workplace Experience, and they will also need to be added to your payroll system (Inspiring Futures Placements and Graduate Internships only).
  2. Current students can work up to a maximum of 17.5 hours during term time, however they are able to work full-time during vacation periods.  Graduates have no university-mandated restrictions on their working hours.

For Inspiring Futures Placements and Graduate Internships, it is your responsibility, as the employer, to submit an invoice to the University’s Finance Department, for funding to be administered, AFTER the student or graduate has been appointed. Funding cannot be released without receipt of an invoice.

The University’s standard payment terms are 30 days following receipt of the invoice.

Next Steps

  • Register for a CareerHub account.  Your account will require our approval before you can complete the next steps. 
  • Complete a Workplace Experiences Employer Information Form. We will ask you for the required details in order to set you up as a supplier to the University and to ensure that you receive any funding you are eligible for.
  • Once approved as a supplier, we will confirm your two-week application window with you. Your opportunity will be advertised and promoted to students and graduates (dependent upon their eligibility). We cannot implement this process with Graduate Internships as opportunities are matched to specific graduates participating in Graduate Head Start programme.
  • After the application deadline, we will then email you all applications that we have received for your Workplace Experience. All identifying information will be removed to ensure that applications are assessed purely on content and not on any personal information. Following your shortlisting process, contact information will be provided for your selected interviewees.
  • You will then have a two-week period in which to shortlist and conduct interviews. You will be required to send us your shortlist to enable us to inform unsuccessful applicants on your behalf. It is, however, your responsibility to inform candidates that you interview of their interview outcome as any feedback that you can provide them with would be greatly appreciated.
  • You will then be required to inform us of the successful candidate(s). For Inspiring Futures Placements and Graduate Internships, we will then provide you with a purchase order number for you to include on your invoice to us.
  • NB: if you do not include a purchase order number on your invoice this may result in a significant delay in payment.
  • You will then be required to email your invoice to our Graduate Projects Finance and Data Officer, Claire Taiwo E: c.taiwo@chester.ac.uk
