Financielle - Student
Intern: Lucy Whisker
"To any students who are thinking of applying, I would say just go for it. Whilst it may seem daunting after years of education, it’s the perfect way to grow and learn about the world of work."
Why did you apply for a Workplace Experience?
I applied for a Workplace Experience with Financielle as the role description fitted perfectly with both my previous experience and the area of work that I wanted to get into. After university I knew I wanted to go straight into a role that was related to my degree and where I could explore my creative side. Landing a Workplace Experience with Financielle let me do just that.
What has been the highlight of your Workplace Experience?
Building a strong portfolio of written pieces has to be something I am particularly proud of. With help from Holly and Laura I’ve been able to set up my own freelance content writing business, this is something I would never have been able to do without their advice, positivity and motivation. The highlight is working alongside two incredibly strong and inspirational women who are disrupting the personal finance space.
How do you feel the internship will make you more employable in the future?
A skill that Holly and Laura have helped me gain is confidence in networking. Realising the importance of networking allowed me to land my first freelance client and has given me the confidence to talk to more inspiring individuals. I’m really grateful to the Financielle team for allowing me access to their amazing network and guiding me through life as a graduate.
What advice would you give to other students thinking of applying?
To any students who are thinking of applying, I would say just go for it. Whilst it may seem daunting after years of education, it’s the perfect way to grow and learn about the world of work. Getting yourself out of your comfort zone will do wonders for your future career and the Careers department are always there alongside you for any help or questions.
