The award programme encourages partnership between sustainability, catering and academic staff in the institution, plus the students' union and students to cover procurement, awareness raising and campaigning activities. There are also opportunities to engage through teaching and the flexibility to receive points for trying out new and innovative ways to engage.
Chaplaincy led the University's Fairtrade Steering Group which coordinated the award programme and will work closely with the Sustainability department to maintain the award going forward.
If you would like further information about Fairtrade in the University or would like to be involved in the Steering Group in any way, do contact chaplaincy@chester.ac.uk.
Part of our commitment to Fairtrade involves campaigns, including lots of bake sales, Fairtrade Pancake Day breakfasts and other food-related events. Watch out for upcoming events on social media and for the Fairtrade logo to appear in lots of creative ways, including our planted arrangement outside Chaplaincy House, which was created by the University's very own Grounds and Gardens team in 2019 to mark the 25th anniversary of the launch of the first few FAIRTRADE Mark certified products in the UK. The planted logo has recently been spruced up for Spring 2022. We've also used the logo as a cake decoration!
