Aditi Kochhar

Aditi tells us about her success in applying for graduate roles during her Accounting and Finance degree, culminating in a role with the world’s leading insurance marketplace, Lloyds.

Tell us about your job offers and what you are now doing!

I’m currently working as an Internal Audit Graduate at Lloyd’s of London. I was thrilled!

I started applying for jobs in October 2019 and I was therefore lucky as I was offered my role before the pandemic affected UK. I was delighted to be offered a graduate scheme from 2 top companies and also a choice of roles with one of my employers. It was really great to have a few job options but at the same time it was very difficult to choose between them. In the end, I chose Lloyd’s because of the engagement they provided prior to the job offer and because the job sounded more engaging for me personally.

What was the highlight of the Accounting and Finance degree at Chester?

My degree helped me prepare for my role as it gave me a well rounded view of business, teaching us about subjects including law, marketing and project management alongside core accounting. Additionally, my lectures were so supportive in answering and questions or providing guidance when needed.

As part of the course we were encouraged to do five-weeks of work experience and this helped me to widen my practical understanding of business. We were also given regular career talks, received great support from our lecturers and were taught a variety of modules allowing me to gain a foundation of knowledge that will help me as I continue with the CIMA qualification.

Where did you do your placement year and what experience did it give you?

I worked as an Operations Reporting Assistant in Volkswagen Group UK within Volkswagen Passenger Cars Sales Operations. It was such a great experience; it helped me to develop my technical skills and understand the challenges and benefits of working within an office environment.

Being able to take a placement year and complete work experience / part-time work were vital for me to secure a graduate job and this is something the uni really helps to facilitate.

Did you enjoy the location of Chester?

Chester was a great location as it felt like a small town while still having plenty to do.
