Course:

When the opportunity to apply for the BA (Hons) apprenticeship in School Business Leadership came up I didn’t hesitate to apply as it was an ideal opportunity to support my continued professional development.

I currently work in a large primary school in South East Northumberland as a School Business Manager.  The school has 450 pupils on roll and is a local authority maintained school.  My role has increased and developed over time both at an operational and strategic level.

I have been in my current post for the last nine years and have increased my tacit knowledge and experience that has in turn, increased the contribution I am able to make to the strategic direction of the school and principal elements of school improvement.

When the opportunity to apply for the BA (Hons) apprenticeship in School Business Leadership came up I didn’t hesitate to apply as it was an ideal opportunity to support my continued professional development.

At this point, I am almost half way through the course and can already can see the impact of the degree and my associated learning on the school and ultimately pupil outcomes.

I share my learning and leadership theories discussed at University with senior leaders at our weekly meetings.  The course is giving me the confidence to be able to join in with discussions, understand pedagogical and practical aspects of leadership whilst developing the ability to highlight new government practices and legislation.

Although there is a high level of commitment required, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the BA (Hons) apprenticeship in School Business Leadership to School Business Managers wanting to make a substantial contribution to the leadership in their organisation.

Anne-Marie Armstrong

As Headteacher of Newsham Primary School, I am delighted to be able to support our School Business Manager as she undertakes a BA (Hons) in School Business Leadership at the University of Chester.

Governors at Newsham Primary fully recognise the importance of continuing professional development. We are delighted that the University of Chester is offering a high quality degree that provides school based practitioners with the opportunity to develop their understanding of the pedagogical and practical aspects of business leadership.  The transfer of knowledge, skills and understanding from university lectures, seminars and tutorials to the workplace is evident as our School Business Manager shares latest research and personal reflections with our Senior Leadership Team on a weekly basis.

As Headteacher, I am confident that the investment we are making in our School Business Manager’s professional development is invaluable.  The impact on the organisation and ultimately pupil outcomes is already evident.  I wish her every success for the remainder of the degree programme.
