About Ged Turner

I have been teaching at the University of Chester since the 2017-18 academic year, and am a senior lecturer at the Centre for Foundation Studies. My own academic studies have been in the fields of politics, sociology and education, and I have previously worked on a range of community and youth education projects as well as on higher education programmes.

My current role includes being the programme leader for Business, Law and Social Sciences in the Centre for Foundation Studies. I am also a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) which means I provide academic and welfare support to a group of foundation year students. I teach on modules including Introduction to the Social Sciences, Global Perspectives, University Study Skills and Independent Project at the Centre.

If you study a foundation year on the Business, Law and Social Sciences programme, then it will lay foundations that are essential for your future progression throughout your time in university. It will provide you with a subject-specific transition year as part of your four-year degree. It will develop your core academic abilities, introduce subject-specific knowledge, prompt broader learning, and contribute to your personal, social and professional development.
