About Karen Cregan

She has developed and delivered professional Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) programmes and is a Fellow of the CIPD and a Chester CIPD committee member.  She is also a HEA Fellow. 

Within her practice role she made improvements to HR service delivery, identified key Human Resource metrics in partnership with Price Waterhouse Coopers and developed and successfully implemented online management tools.

She developed core competencies in health and wellbeing and employee relations for leadership development programmes.  She created a University sector project to develop framework for the sector for Employee Engagement and Wellbeing.  This was with the support of the National University Colleges Employers Association, Universities Human Resource forum and Dame Carol Black (Government Policy advisor).

She is chair of the Reporting Services Special Interest group for the Northgate Arinso organisation who are global leaders in HR and Payroll Outsourcing, HR Consulting and HR and Payroll Software services.  She has and continues to be a conference speaker at a number of professional practice events.  These include Northgate Arinso, University Safety and Health Association, Institute of Employment Studies, Association of University Administrator, UCEA and Universities Human Resources.

Karen Instigated and successfully achieved the University of Chester gaining accreditation for the Investors In People Health and Wellbeing award and the Workplace Wellbeing Charter which was presented to the University by Dame Carol Black. 


Her research interests include: The psycho-social effects of wellbeing interventions and the influence on organisational performance. 

She has conducted research in this area of study particularly with Virgin Media call-centre agents on the use of sit-stand desks (2016) and with Mental Health First Aid England, evaluating a Higher Education Mental Health First Aid course. (2016).
