About Prof Hussien Rabee

Professor Rabee was a Consultant, Associate Professor and Head of Vascular Surgery, KSU, Saudi Arabia 1998-2014. He participated in teaching full curriculum of vascular surgery to hundreds of students: undergraduate, MSc, PhD, and MD students (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and UK). The graduates of KSUF in vascular surgery are currently consultants working all over the world including UK.

He innovated training modules delivered to undergraduate students and postgraduate fellows in vascular surgery including Doppler uses, vascular procedures, Skill lab, animal lab, journal club, audits, and clinical governance. He is an examiner in different training programs and a reviewer of several Medical Journals. He translated a book in venous disorders to Arabic language.

His research interest includes Carotid Surgery, Aortic Aneurysms, Peripheral Vascular Diseases, and was rewarded the 1st Prize for Best Annual Research for 5 successive years (2001-2006). In the animal lab, new intervention was studied to stimulate angiogenesis (Nan-technology).

Teaching

Professor Rabee ‘s wide teaching experience for undergraduates and postgraduates in Egypt (Alexandria, Ain-Shams & Cairo Universities), in Saudi Arabia (King Saud & Al-Faisal Universities), and UK (Keele, Salford, Liverpool, Chester Universities). He is clinical supervisor and Appraiser for junior and senior colleagues in Countess of Chester Hospital.

He is participating in the cardiovascular lectures for Chester University MSc program.

Research

  1. Carotid Endartrectomy in Post Cerebral Stroke Patients with Significant Carotid Artery Lesions (1993-95).
  2. Level of MMP’s (matrix metalloproteinase) in AAA abdominal aortic aneurysms patients.
  3. Prevalence of AAA (epidemiological study in middle east patients).
  4. Rabbit model of Chronic limb ischemia (investigated new interventions stimulating Angiogenesis, utilizing Nano-technology, we used novel thyroid analogs which proved to stimulate angiogenesis).
  5.  GALA Trial General anaesthesia versus local anaesthesia for carotid surgery (GALA): (parallel group, multicentre, randomised controlled trial of 3526 patients with symptomatic or asymptomatic carotid stenosis from 95 centres in 24 countries).
  6.  Currently, participating in COVER Study Tier2 & Tier 3 in UK; The impact of the COronaVIrus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on the clinical management of patients with vascular diseases. Findings from Tier 3 of the COVID-19 Vascular sERvice (COVER) Study.
