About Dr Simon Tavernor

Dr Tavernor is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and from 2005 he has worked at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, within the Arundel House Community Mental Health Team.  He was a Clinical Director from 2007 to 2019 and Associate Medical Director (Physical Health & Medicines Safety), the medicine safety officer and Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer from 2014 to 2018.  From 2005 until 2018, prior to taking on the role of Supra Theme Lead at the School of Medicine, he was the Undergraduate Clinical Sub-dean for Psychiatry at Liverpool University.

Teaching

Involvement with medical undergraduate teaching at Liverpool University since 2005 and as Clinical Lecturer in Psychiatry at Nottingham University from 1997 to 1999.  Experience of postgraduate psychiatric education, supervising both junior and senior trainees. 

External examiner at Southampton University for Year 4 of their Medical Course since 2019.

Research

Dr Tavernor has research experience within psychopharmacolgy, epilepsy and forensic psychiatry. 

He is a Research & Scholarship supervisor within the School of Medicine, University of Liverpool.

His current research interests are in medical undergraduate wellbeing and Global Mental Health.
