Research

My current research focuses on using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in relation to the digital mapping of the environment. I use this specialist developed technique to create innovative Enhanced Virtual Field Guides (EVFG) for geoscience students for fieldwork purposes and also to enable practitioners concerning site assessments and to convey risk.

UAVs are an excellent tool, but not many are investigating their effectiveness as a tool in education. My passion for research is investigating how digital pedagogies such as UAVs, EVFGs and Mobile Technologies can be used effectively in higher education to help promote diversity and attainment in Geography students on fieldwork.

My other research focuses on the impact of aviation in relation to climate change and the motivations that drive people to carbon offset their emissions. I am also editor of the International Journal for Students as Partners, and I am keen on researching the impact ‘Students as Partners’ can have in changing the curriculum and environment in higher education for our students.
