I started my career in social work in 1989. My background is primarily in mental health working in both the statutory and voluntary sector. I practiced as an Approved Social Worker before moving into management in 1997. I joined the University of Chester in 2003 and I currently hold the post of Deputy with lead responsibility for social work.
Teaching
I hold the post of Deputy Head with lead responsibility for social work.
I am the Programme Leader for the MA Applied Mental Health Practice programme (AMHP training) which is delivered in collaboration with the Cheshire AMHP Partnership. I have a particular interest in Continuing Professional Development for qualified social workers and currently deliver the University’s Best Interests Assessor Training course and Preparation for AMHP Practice Module. I am External Examiner for University of Huddersfield.
Research
My area of research interest is legislation relating to mental health and mental capacity.
