About Dr Andrew Lyon

Andy has been Head of Department since April 2015 and is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy 

Andy Lectures in Tourism, focusing on destination management and sustainable tourism development. His PhD from the University of Liverpool is titled: Tourism and sustainable development: active stakeholder discourses in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, South Africa.

Research interests include tourism development, destination management, sustainability in tourism, tourism and ageing, backpacker tourism and discourse analysis.

He is also a board member of Marketing Cheshire, the regional destination marketing organisation and a trustee of Tourism Concern, a charity focusing on ethical concerns within tourism.

Other Expertise

Consultancy on tourism development projects in Tenerife, focusing on rural sustainable development and also in The Gambia, developing community-based tourism in a small coastal resort.

Current Work

Full-time lecturer in Tourism, focusing on destination management and sustainable tourism development.
