I consider the pastoral support of students, including those abroad, under the formal Personal Academic Tutor system and in more informal situations to be vital in providing a positive learning environment that inspires and facilitates academic achievement.

About Carmen Usategui
In addition to lecturing at the University of Chester, Carmen is External Examiner for the undergraduate Spanish programmes at the Universities of Nottingham Trent and Lincoln.
She regularly delivers workshops on language teaching and topic updates to secondary teachers of Spanish.
Teaching
Carmen has been lecturing on Spanish language, cinema and society and applied teaching methodology in the University of Chester since 2005. She was previously Senior Lecturer in Spanish at UCLAN.
Research
Research interests include pedagogical theory and practice, Spanish media and current affairs, and the development of language learning materials.
She is currently involved in preparing workshops on peer learning, and she is also creating and piloting language learning materials for A level students and language support materials at undergraduate level.
