Research

I was awarded a PhD in Politics from the University of Manchester in 2016. My PhD critically reflected on how academic research and policy analyses of sexual violence in the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo function to solidify particular ways of understanding and embodying masculinity.

Since completing my PhD I have continued to develop my research in new directions by looking at how security sector reforms efforts intended to combat sexual violence in complex landscapes of war intersect with familiar colonial and racialized images of masculinity and strengthen the power and influence of militarism globally.
