About Dr Amy Morgan

Amy gained a First with Honours bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science in 2013, and gained a Masters by Research in Applied Science the following year, from the Department of Biological Science, University of Chester, before transferring to the Department of Chemical Engineering to conduct a PhD in ageing research. Amy gained Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in August 2017 following the completion of the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCertLTHE). Amy Joined the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Thornton Science Park as Technical Officer in January 2018, where she is laboratory custodian for the Biotechnology and Category II Microbiology laboratories, and supports laboratory practicals and research in these areas. Amy is also heavily involved in research within the Faculty.

Teaching

Amy prepares and supports laboratory sessions for:

  • SE4001 Professional Skills for Scientists & Engineers
  • SE4008 Biotechnology and Applied Biochemistry
  • SE5050 Solids, Microscopy and On-line Techniques
  • SE5015 Biotechnology and Bioinformatics for Disease and Nutrition
  • SE7011 Research Project

Additionally, at University Centre Shrewsbury, Amy has delivered lectures for MD4003 Molecules of Life and MD5002 Metabolic Regulation. She also delivers a week long modelling based project for MD5006 Applied Laboratory Skills.

  • Using electrochemical techniques to detect DNA methylation as a sensor for cancer
  • Mathematically modelling cholesterol metabolism and ageing
  • Mathematically modelling cholesterol metabolism and vitamin D metabolism
