We encourage and support new research through our expanding doctoral programme, the Doctorate in Education (EdD), and our MPhil/PhD programmes.

"Whichever route students follow, they will study as a member of a supportive community of peers."

Our supervisors have researched and published in the fields of pedagogy, philosophy, theory and sociology of education as well as being experienced practitioners. Our students are supported and supervised thoroughly, and furnished with the necessary critical and research skills to prepare and develop a viable thesis that will occupy the final stages of their study.

The EdD includes a taught component that is designed specifically for professional people, which is delivered over six weekends each year to fit in with busy schedules.

For examples of theses undertaken by our past and present postgraduate research students (with links to full projects on the Chester Repository site where applicable) please follow the link below. Students who have completed an undergraduate course are required to earn a Master’s level qualification before undertaking doctoral study - further information about applications and funding is available here.
