Faith Carter

I sit at home writing.
whilst you’re close to a stranger you’ve found in a bar.
This used to make my stomach turn,
not anymore

That’s our normal.
I can almost hear a wave of rolling eyes,
but that’s fine!
it only has to make sense to you.

So, if all goes to plan
I’ll next see you in summer
we’ll be drawn together
by the art of eye contact

Something inside will release a quiet sigh of relief
it clears its throat and musters up a small
‘I’ve been looking for you everywhere!’
I ignore it of course.

I will turn pink and ramble through each thought,
you’ll ask me to keep talking nonsense
because you ‘love the sound of my voice’
and I’ll disregard these charms as I always do.
