About the Event

Age discrimination exists and it’s time to challenge stereotypes, smashing preconceptions about ageing and making women in their middle age more visible.  Part of the Diversity Festival Programme, ‘Crunchy Talks – Tales from Midlife Journeys’ is a special project aiming to empower women feeling stuck in the middle of their journey.

Speakers include:

  • Jenny Anne Bishop, Trans Awareness and Equality Campaigner
  • Vanessa Rhodes, HR Guru
  • Michael Jepson, Trans Awareness and Equality Campaigner
  • Theresa Roberts, Inspirational humourist author and speaker
  • Dr Lou Taylor, expert in ageing
  • Professor Emma Rees, Director of the University’s Institute of Gender Studies

Who is it for: Created and led by the lifestyle journalist Michela Di Carlo, founder of crunchytales.com a digital illustrated magazine ‘for those ladies who don’t let age define them’, the event - run in partnership between the University of Chester Diversity Festival and Crunchy Tales - wants to celebrate people of all genders in all their midlife glory, no matter their backgrounds, helping them rethink the way they approach and experience this stage of their life. In particular, it is meant to highlight the way people from different genders, abilities or culture experience, challenge, celebrate and approach midlife.

What you will gain from attending:  Encouraging the most inclusive debate possible around middle age and ageism, Michela will interview a panel of inspirational people from different paths on the topic of various midlife issues, ageing and repurpose in life. Followed by Q&A.
