About the Event

The Diversity Festival 2020 is delighted to welcome Craig Pinkney, Criminologist, Urban Youth Specialist and Lecturer at the University College Birmingham.  Craig is one of the UK's leading thinkers/doers in responding to Gangs and Serious Youth Violence. He is an JNC qualified Youth Worker with over 15 years’ experience as an Outreach Worker, Transformational Speaker, Gang Exit Strategist, Mediator, Mentor and Filmmaker.

At this exciting launch event, Craig will discuss the power of privilege on choices and life journeys.  He will reflect on the prevalence and impact of gangs, drugs, county lines, knife and gun crime over the last 15 years and the changes and effects we can expect to see in this area over the next 15 years.

Craig’s keynote will encompass themes of racism, the impact of social media and of music on our society and open our eyes to the challenges young people may face.  His talk will be engaging, enlightening and challenging, making those who do have “privilege” aware of the issues those without may face.

Diversity Ball – Chester.  A city of walls, without barriers

Craig’s talk will be followed by a short overview of Chester’s Diversity Ball by Ball organiser Joel Josephson.   The Chester Diversity Ball will take place on 22nd May 2020 in Chester cathedral. It will include orchestras, live bands, DJs and events that will define Chester as a diverse, open and welcoming city.  Joel will join us at the launch to explain more about the Ball.
