About the Event

Need for Speed: The Sound of Racing Games

A Public Lecture by Ruth Dockwray (Chester, MMP)

This event is hosted by The Culture and Society Research Knowledge Exchange Institute and will take place on Wednesday, 22 February 2023 from 6-7.30 pm, Wheeler Building CRV139.

Ruth Dockwray is an Associate Professor of Popular Music at the University of Chester. She has published on aspects of video game music in addition to papers on the musicology of music production. In this paper, Ruth discusses how audio and music plays a particularly strong role in both the presentation of 'reality' and the narrative arc of video games. With specific focus on racing games, aspects such as the way music has been composed along with the use of surround sound will be considered to show how a sense of realism and immersion is created for the player.

All welcome and admission is free. To help with seating and refreshments, guests are encouraged to register for tickets on Eventbrite:
