Abstract
In the post-Covid world, there are five generations in the workplace with the continued adoption of virtual teams. Whilst there are many cited benefits of this organisational environment, there is also proposed concern regarding social isolation, arguments around weakening of workplace belonging, suggested gaps in leadership skills and muted inter-generational tensions and differences. These concerns could be helping to thwart belonging needs, leading to negative outcomes for individuals and organisations. This research is to conduct an intergenerational, multi-level case study approach to investigate the perceptions and experiences of the need to belong in remote teams.
Biography
Helen has just completed the first year of her Professional Doctorate with the University of Chester and is now moving into the major research and thesis stage. She balances her studies with a full-time role as Customer Operations Leader for Europe, Middle East and Africa for a large multi-national manufacturing organisation. She is particularly interested in belonging in the workplace coupled with whether there are intergenerational differences, which builds on her Master’s Dissertation which was focused on leadership of remote teams, which was also completed with the University of Chester.
