About the Event

Martin Gallagher is the man behind Top 10 UK Mental Health Blog, 'Learning to Dad'. He openly and honestly explores his experiences of living with depression and anxiety as a dad.

As an Irish Traveller, Martin actively campaigns for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller rights and is passionate about addressing inequality and discrimination.  Martin regularly features in magazines such as Traveller's Times and Traveller's Voice.

In this event Martin will talk about his experiences covering these diverse, yet interlinked areas – parenting, his own mental health, supporting his partner as a parent and through her own mental health issues as well as his experiences as an ethnic minority.

Who is it for: This will be of interest to anyone, staff, student or visitor, who has experienced Mental Health issues, anyone who is a parent and anyone who wants to learn more about the GRT community – basically everyone and anyone!

What you will gain from attending: This will be a fantastic, engaging and interactive event with Martin, who is straight-talking and uses a humorous approach towards mental illness and parenting.

Not afraid to speak about the links between the conflict, discrimination and racism that is received daily towards his Gypsy, Romani and Irish Traveller (GRT) heritage, Martin is happy to address the misconceptions surrounding Irish Traveller lifestyle and is very reflective on the effect that daily hostility has on the mental health of not just GRT, but all minorities.  An event not to be missed!
