About the Event

Dr Mike Burt, Visiting Professor, Department of Social Work and Interprofessional Education, University of Chester

As social problems started to be separately identified and addressed from the end of the nineteenth century onwards, the work carried out by different occupational groups and volunteers evolved. This talk will examine the roles and responsibilities carried out by groups of workers which were increasingly referred to collectively as social workers between 1930 and 1974. Their relationship to staff in public health departments of local authorities is discussed.

Host: Faculty of Health and Social Care Historical Society
