About the Event

Dr Claire Chatterton, Visiting Professor at the University of Chester, Staff Tutor at the Open University and former Chair of the Royal College of Nursing’s History of Nursing Society

The County Lunatic Asylum for Cheshire opened in Chester in 1829 and was later to be known by a variety of names including Chester Asylum, Upton Mental Hospital, the Deva Hospital and West Cheshire Hospital.  This talk will consider its first hundred years and discuss some of the staff and patients (some of whom were from Nantwich) who lived and worked within its walls.

This online event costs £5 and is run by Nantwich Museum as part of their online programme of talks to accompany their exhibition 'Ouch! A Slightly Horrible History of Health and Disease in Nantwich'.
