The directors of the International Flash Fiction Association welcome proposals for MPhil/PhD work (creative and/or critical) on flash fiction. An MPhil/PhD is a great way to establish yourself as an expert in the field and to progress towards a career in academia.

Drs Peter Blair and Ashley Chantler are two of the world’s leading experts in the short-short story. They teach flash fiction on several BA and MA modules, have had their own flashes printed in other publications, given readings, edited anthologies of short-shorts, written articles and essays on the form, and have given their advice to numerous aspiring writers. They are the founders and editors of Flash: The International Short-Short Story Magazine and Flash: The International Short-Short Story Press. They are the founders of the National Flash Fiction Youth Competition and have been judges of the NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge, the Gladstone's Library Short Story Competition, and the Chester Library Flash Fiction Competition. In 2012, they were interviewed for two pieces:

‘The Incredible Shrinking Short Story’

‘The Art of Flashing’

As a student at the University, you will have access to Seaborne Library’s Flash Fiction Special Collection, an unsurpassed research resource, as well as to the archive of Flash: The International Short-Short Story Magazine.
