About Marie Thomas

After completing my degree in social sciences in the 1990s, I initially began teaching basic skills and working in a college library before qualifying as a careers advisor for adults. However, due to childcare responsibilities I needed to change career and became a further and higher education lecturer for adults at Wirral Metropolitan College for nine years, teaching for the University of Chester as an associate tutor. I have also worked extensively within SEND primary schools, mainly with children with a diagnosis of autism.

My experience teaching in lifelong learning and also as a careers advisor means I understand the importance of education in improving life chances, but also the challenges that can arise in balancing education with other commitments and responsibilities, as this is something I have managed throughout my working life.
