About Dr Fotini Karakatsani

After she obtained her PhD in Applied Mathematics in 2007, Fotini spent three years in Germany working as a Research Associate at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In September 2010 she joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Cyprus on a temporary lectureship appointment and, one year later, she moved to Bilbao to work as postdoctoral researcher at Basque Centre of Applied Mathematics. In November 2012 she joined the University of Strathclyde as a Research Associate where she spent two years. She joined the University of Chester in November 2014.


During her academic career Fotini has taught a quite large variety of undergraduate mathematics and programming courses in higher education including Calculus, Analysis, Numerical Analysis,  Linear Algebra, Mathematics for Engineers, Matlab for Engineers, Programming in C.


Fotini’s research interests include Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, Implicit-Explicit Schemes, Finite Element Method (standard Galerkin, DG, stabilized), A priori and A Posteriori Error Analysis of Time Dependent Problems, Adaptive Methods and Discrete Maximum Principle.
