Jen Slater’s research focuses on issues of disability, gender and the body. She is also interested in critical explorations of developmental discourse and issues of access/accessibility. Jen draws on critical disability studies, queer theories and feminisms to explore how relationships between disability, gender, sexuality, race and youth/development function under (neo)liberal agendas of transnational capitalism.

Her 2015 book, Youth and Disability: A Challenge to Mr Reasonable, explores youth and disability as social, cultural and political constructs, alongside gender, sexuality and the body. More recent musings have taken place through a cross-disciplinary, arts-based research project called Around the Toilet, which explores the toilet as an embodied space of exclusion and belonging.
