Scholarships

Current University of Chester international undergraduate students are eligible for the International Merit Alumni Scholarship. Undergraduate students who continue onto a University of Chester postgraduate course receive this award in appreciation for their commitment to the institution. Terms and conditions apply.

Chevening Scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organisations. Chevening Scholarships are for the talented people who have been identified as potential future leaders across a wide range of fields, including politics, business, the media, civil society, religion and academia.

The Indonesia-UK DIKTI Scholarship Programme is open for lecturers at Indonesian universities and administrative staff at DIKTI and Indonesian state universities, to undertake postgraduate study at many leading universities in the United Kingdom. The programme will fund up to 750 academics to come and study in the UK over the next five years. All academic subjects are eligible for full funding under the DIKTI programme.

The Goa Education Trust (GET) scholarship is offered to selected Indian students annually for pursuing a Masters in the UK. Initially conceptualised for Goans, the scholarship has now been opened up to all Indian students applying for any Master’s programme in any UK universities.

The Snowdon Masters Scholarship has been designed to identify and accelerate talented disabled students through higher education, creating the influencers of the future. The scholarship includes fee funding up to £15,000 p.a. for a one or two-year UK Masters course and most scholarships include a further allowance towards studying costs.

The University of Chester has been granted 8 Commonwealth Scholarships for the 2024 academic year. 

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must:

• Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country.
• Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country;
• Be available to start your academic studies in the UK (or remotely if required) by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2024;
• By September 2024, hold a first degree at of at least upper second-class level (2:1) standard

OR

• By September 2024, hold a first degree at either lower-second class (2:2) standard plus a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
• Meet the University’s English Language entry criteria for postgraduate study
• Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
• Be unable themselves, or through their families, to pay to study in the UK;
• Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.

The scholarship can only be used to join one of the following programmes:

• MSc Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation
• MSc Biotechnology (Shrewsbury)
• MSc Family and Child Psychology
• MSc Public Health Nutrition
• MSc Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine (Shrewsbury)

In order to be considered for an award, candidates MUST complete the following steps by 16.00 GMT 14th December 2023.

1. Submit a University of Chester International application with all supporting documents and a Commonwealth Expression of Interest

When making your University of Chester application , please ensure you indicate you are applying for the Commonwealth Scholarship.

1. Submit an online Commonwealth Scholarship Commission application via the Electronic Application System (EAS). You will need to enter your University of Chester application number on the EAS form. You will be automatically issued with this number once you have completed and submitted the University of Chester International Application form.

When making your application please ensure that you include the following information:

• Completed Commonwealth Scholarship expression of interest form – this will be emailed to you automatically when you state you wish to be considered for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship
• Evidence of any work experience stated on the application form (if applicable).
• Copies of your passport and ALL current and previous UK Visas (if applicable).
• At least a 500-word statement that includes why you think you are eligible for this scholarship and what the benefits will be to you and your home country.
• A reference (signed by the referee and provided on letterhead paper).
• Copies of all transcripts/certificates – evidence of qualifications obtained.
• Copies of any English language qualifications gained (e.g. IELTS, WAEC, NECO, KCSE, Indian Standard 12th) – for more information on the English qualifications we accept please contact international@chester.ac.uk.
