While the way in which we will deliver some of the services and facilities we provide for our students may have changed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the University of Chester remains fully committed to delivering an excellent range of student support, student services and facilities to enhance your academic study. Details for the 2020/21 academic year will be sent directly to applicants and returning students. Further information can also be found here.

More about the campus

The heart of your university experience, this campus is at the centre of it all. A home, a hub of learning and socialising, and where you’ll make lifelong friends and memories.

“Studying on the Parkgate Campus is like being back home a bit. Everything is so close by, so easy to get to. There’s so much going on as well - it’s almost hard not to get to know people!”Emma, studying Criminology

Our historic Parkgate Road Campus has offered a wide range of courses since opening its doors in 1839. If you visit the campus today, you’ll find a variety of academic departments, teaching and learning areas, and subject-specific facilities (plus, plenty to keep you entertained). It’s situated only a 10-minute walk from the lively city centre, and provides a friendly, secure and supportive environment in which to live and study.

Parkgate Road Campus is where you can find many of the University’s central facilities and services, including our Wellbeing and Mental Health teamCareers teamDisability support, the University ChapelWork Based Learning and Study Abroad.

We know that everyone learns in different ways, and our dedicated resources and IT services across all of our campuses reflect this. Seaborne Library has an extensive selection of books, e-books and e-journals, as well as bookable multimedia rooms, video conferencing space, 24-hour access computer labs, and The Hub; a comfortable two-floor study zone, suitable for independent and group study. If you’re ever struggling with a project, our subject-specific librarians are always happy to help, all you need to do is ask.

The Hub of Student Life

This campus has it all - the Students’ Union, catering outlets, library, fitness facilities, sports and societies, and a bar. To top it off, you’re only a ten-minute walk from the city centre, and Parkgate Road Campus is right in the middle of the Garden Quarter of Chester - a bustling student area, home to friendly pubs, cafés and shops. The campus also has lots of green space and beautifully kept gardens, perfect for enjoying warmer weather.

Whether it’s grabbing a snack or sitting down for a meal, you won’t be short on places to eat. Take your pick from White’s Dining Room (offering a range of meal options, including a meat-free bar), Binks Brasserie (serving Starbucks coffee, breakfast and light bites), The Gourmet Burger House (this one needs no explanation!), two Grab & Go areas (perfect for a quick pick me up) and our new Pizzeria.

Chester Students’ Union

Chester Students’ Union (CSU) offers a great selection of on-campus entertainment and activities designed to enhance your university experience.

Chester Students’ Union was ranked as a Top 10 Students’ Union in the 2019 WhatUni? Student Choice Awards.

Safety and Support

We’re proud to have a supportive learning environment, as well as dedicated support networks and initiatives in place to help ensure our students can make the most of their university experience and be the best they can be. Our support teams have been praised in the past for their dedication to student care, and the city of Chester was voted as one of the best places to live in Britain (The Sunday Times, 2017).
