While the way in which we will deliver some of the services and facilities we provide for our students may have changed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the University of Chester remains fully committed to delivering an excellent range of student support, student services and facilities to enhance your academic study. Details for the 2020/21 academic year will be sent directly to applicants and returning students. Further information can also be found here.

About the campus

Offering specialist vocational courses in health, social care and education, this campus is all about putting theory into practice.

Riverside is a beautiful campus right by the city centre. The campus itself provides a great common room to sit with friends and relax, and it has a great library for any assignments, whether it’s individual or group work.Samantha, studying Learning Disability Nursing

The University took ownership of the former County Hall in Chester in 2010 and transformed it into the Riverside Campus building, which is just a 20-minute walk from the main Chester Campus, Parkgate Road. Riverside Campus provides students with amazing subject-specific facilities and a practical approach to learning. Located within the lively city centre of Chester and overlooking the River Dee, Riverside is home to most courses within the Faculty of Education and Children’s Services*, and the Faculty of Health and Social Care*.

Study and Socialise

Our on-campus library houses an extensive book collections for Education and Children’s Services and Health and Social Care, journals and school-based resources, as well as computer suites and multimedia rooms. Riverside Campus provides a 192-seat lecture theatre, and all of the teaching spaces are equipped with high-grade audiovisual technology and provide an excellent learning experience.  Our experienced team of staff work hard to help you realise your potential through a variety of teaching methods, including practice placements.

Riverside’s café and coffee shop serves hot and cold drinks, snacks and delicious meals. Meanwhile, the student common room provides a social, group work and discussion space for students, with hot and cold drinks vending machines and snack machines available, and students are able to eat their own food here. If you feel like a bit of fresh air take a walk along the River Dee, or pop into the vibrant city centre – it’s right on your doorstep.

Education and Children’s Services

Our reputation for providing teaching excellence was acknowledged by Ofsted, who awarded our Faculty with ‘Outstanding’ status for primary and secondary programmes (Ofsted Report 2016). Our subject-specific facilities such as a science lab and an art and DT space bring learning to life. Students have access to a wealth of teaching aids and can practise teaching in a classroom or early years setting. Students are taught by staff who are experienced researchers, actively developing new ideas, information and methods in the field of Education.

Health and Social Care

Our new simulation suite emulates diverse healthcare spaces, ranging from a patient’s home and community clinic settings to acute care settings, including a Triage Assessment Area, Maternity Delivery Suite, Children’s Ward and a General Ward. Patient simulators and virtual reality technology will immerse you in the learning experience, and support the development of your skill set before you enter the working world. We are also well positioned within the North West to network and collaborate with key influencers, including local NHS Trusts and Local Authorities.
