The 2018 Data Protection Act came into force in May 2018 along with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This Data Protection Legislation imposes major responsibilities on Higher Education institutions in terms of the management of personal data.

The terms and conditions of the Student Enrolment Conditions outlines what the University of Chester and each student are required and obligated to provide.
A number of programmes of study at the University of Chester involve students undertaking a placement that includes specified contact with children or vulnerable adults; this is known as Regulated Activity and requires students to have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate from the University of Chester.
Adopting a publication scheme is a requirement of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000, which came fully into force on 1st January 2005.
