Following the latest update on replying to university offers for 2021 entry, we wanted to give you a quick and easy guide to understanding the new deadlines, as well as everything else you need to know to make the right decision for you.
Your options.
You may already be aware but once you’ve applied to your chosen universities, you can later receive up to five offers from these institutions. You will hold onto these offers until you decide which to accept.
To make a decision, you can accept one offer as your Firm choice (often referred to as CF or UF depending on if your offer was conditional or unconditional).
If your Firm choice is a conditional offer (CF), then you can accept a second offer as your Insurance choice. Just make sure that you decline any other offers on UCAS Track.
For your Insurance choice, we recommend choosing a university with slightly lower entry requirements to ensure you’ve got a back-up plan in place in case Results Day doesn’t go as you expect. But make sure it’s still a university that you’re happy with.
Know your deadline.
It’s important that you reply to your offers before the deadline - your personal deadline will be clearly stated on UCAS Track. Reply deadlines are based on when you received your last decision from the universities and colleges you applied to.
If you receive your last decision on or before 20th May 2021, your reply date will be 10th June 2021, and if you receive your last decision on or before 13th July 2021, your reply date will be 14th July (including Extra choices). Further information about replying to your offers can be found here.
It’s worth remembering that you have to reply to all of your offers at the same time. We understand how important this decision is to you, and we know it’s something that shouldn’t be rushed, so we’d recommend taking all the time you need to make the right choice for you. As long as you have replied to your offers before your personal deadline, which is indicated on UCAS Track, then your replies will be recorded.
Some handy tips.
We appreciate that selecting your Firm and Insurance choice universities is a big decision to make, so before accepting your offers make sure you do as much research as possible. It’s also important to try and visit the universities you’re holding an offer with – you can do this virtually if a physical visit isn’t possible.
When you’re waiting to hear back from your choices, it’s worth keeping in mind that all institutions will reply in their own time so you’ll need to keep an eye on UCAS Track.
One final tip – make sure you reply to all of your offers. If, for whatever reason, you don’t and you ignore reminders, you’ll be ‘declined by default’ and lose your offers.
