1. Historic City
With more than 2,000 years of history, Chester is home to a number of iconic landmarks. Students can follow in the footsteps of Roman soldiers and explore the city's famous amphitheatre which was the largest in the UK holding up to 7,000 spectators!
2. Bordered by Beautiful North Wales
Chester sits right on the border with Wales which boasts some breath-taking natural attractions. Students are just a short journey away from brilliant beaches and thrilling mountain scenery. The International Centre organises trips to Snowdonia and students have the opportunity to climb Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales!
3. Fantastic Psychology Department (From Jordan Olsen- Psychology student)
"My favourite part about studying in Chester is definitely the incredible members of staff! All of the professors in the Psychology department are excellent! I appreciate the personal attention I can access at any time, especially from my Personal Academic Tutor or dissertation supervisor. They are incredibly kind, funny and really know their stuff! 4. Vibrant International Student Society
The International Student Society is the perfect place to meet people from all over the world and build friendships that last a lifetime. The society organises a number of events all year round celebrating international traditions from all over the world.
5. Range of Combined Degree Options

6. Chester Zoo
Chester is home to the third best zoo in the world (TripAdvisor 2017) and with 15,000 animals from over 500 species, it’s a must visit for nature lovers! The zoo is just two miles from the city centre and is easily accessible by public transport.
7. Creating Your Own Society (From Puja Chowdhury – MBA student)
The University of Chester gives an opportunity to create your own society based on your interests and passions. I was able to make my small Indian family away from home by creating the Bollywood society where Indians and other international students are able to embrace the culture, food and beliefs of my home country. Anyone student can create their own society and it’s a great way to share your interests with new and existing friends.
8. Award-Winning Business School
In 2018, Chester was voted Business School of the year by Educate North and we were also nominated for the same accolade at the Times Higher Education Awards. Chester Business School offers outstanding teaching and our prestigious Queen’s Park campus provides international students with a platform to shape their future career.
9. Work Based Learning
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to complete a five-week, professional work placement in their second year of study. International students can do their Work Based Learning at organisations in or outside the UK in degree and non-degree related fields. 10. Expanding Learning Horizons (From Mary Johnson – Photography and Graphic Design student)
I love studying at the University of Chester because the Art and Design department has given me the opportunity to travel overseas and expand my knowledge in different cultures. I recently went on a faculty trip to Barcelona and it was a truly amazing experience!
11. Campus Cat
Our main campus on Parkgate Road has become the adopted second home of Millie, the friendly tortoise-shell! Our students love meeting Campus Cat, who is never shy of receiving attention and she’s even been known to sit in on lectures! Millie does have a home nearby but loves wandering around campus and brightening up the lives of our students.
12. Airport Pickup
We know that travelling to the UK can be a tiring experience! That’s why we offer an airport pickup service to take you straight from the airport to Chester to get you settled in as soon as possible.
13. Engaging Teaching (From Divine Oladimeji- International Business student)
My knowledge has increased dramatically thanks to my lecturers’ expertise, challenging assignments and thought-provoking coursework. The learning process here in Chester is simply amazing!
14. Feeding Your Passion for Sport
There are more than 70 Chester Students’ Union sports teams spread across Chester, Warrington and Shrewsbury. CSU Sports are a fantastic way to socialise, stay active and take a break from academic studies. Our Sports clubs welcome anyone regardless of ability and international students have the opportunity to represent Chester in competitive matches against other institutions.

Whilst our international students love being in Chester, they can easily travel to other major cities when needed. Liverpool and Manchester are less than an hour away by public transport and London is just a two-hour direct train journey away!

Located in the heart of Chester, students can visit the IC for support and guidance on a number of issues. Our International Officers are based here and we always welcome visits from students.

48. Practical Learning (From Ho Li Fong- International Business Management Graduate)
Studying at Chester Business School allowed me to develop my knowledge through coursework and projects rather than exams and tests. This gave me freedom to express my own thoughts and ideas. Soon after graduating, I landed a role at Standard Chartered and this was thanks to my experience in Chester!
