As part of this year’s Annual Alumni Reunion, a special mini Reunion is taking place for 1969 starters on Friday evening, September 13. On the blog this week, Pat Ransome (1972) shares some of her College memories as the 50 year reunion celebrations for her and her friends approach.
Tan Tan Ta Ra! Tan Tan Ta Ra! Zing Boom! Zing Boom!
And so marched on the soldiers from Iolanthe, as the floorboards of Gladdy Hall reverberated to their beat and a chorus of fairies giggled expectantly!
Bringing back any memories?
“If so, then you would have been at College in November 1969 and may well have played a part in the popular Gilbert and Sullivan production. More used to the rugby field than the stage, the PE lads were persuaded that year to join staff and students in an unforgettable performance of music and fun. Long term relationships were forged that week that endure to this day!
“Perhaps it was singing in the choir with Emlyn Roberts that you remember? We didn’t win but the taking part was brilliant. Or was it camping on the summit of Plinlymon and waking to a snowstorm that you remember? How did we get down? Mountain Leadership certainly came in useful!
“These are just some of the many memories from the year 1969, which also saw the landing of man on the moon, the first flight of Concorde, Harold Wilson as Prime Minister, the release of the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the invention of the microprocessor (the forerunner of the computer), The Beatles’ Abbey Road album, bell bottom trousers and tie dye shirts����� and, just as importantly, our arrival at Chester College in September.
“2019 marks 50 years since our arrival, and in September this year, there will be the opportunity to meet with past colleagues and share our memories. During the Annual Alumni Reunion on the Friday evening of September 13 (and throughout the weekend), you are invited to join us 1969 starters as we remember our first days at Chester College 50 years ago.
“We would love to see you there! If you have photos and memorabilia, please do bring them along!
