Stephen Clarke

Stephen Clarke is a Lecturer in Critical and Contextual Studies in the Department of Art and Design – as well as a published author of critical writing, and a published and exhibiting artist.

At 7pm this Thursday, he will be hosting an online discussion with ‘Six By Six’, who are six professional photographers - Tadhg Devlin, Craig Easton, Adam Lee, Stephen McCoy, Colin McPherson and Stephanie Wynne, Six By Six's mission is to start conversations, spark debate and grow a network of people interested in photography.

Their usual home is a venue that is not a traditional gallery: Lightbox Gallery at Ropes & Twines in Liverpool. During lockdown, Six By Six has been hosting a virtual series called #SixBySixSocial, on Zoom – with links to future events being accessed on the group’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The subject of Thursday’s talk is ‘Inspiration and influence: what are they and where do they come from?’, where the Six By Six photographers will discuss with Stephen Clarke what has inspired them and their work. It will be a wide-ranging conversation examining influences outside of photography, covering disparate sources from science fiction to sculpture.

Stephen Clarke said: “Fundamentally Six By Six are a group of friends that have known each other for a number of years. The series of ‘Six By Six’ exhibitions and events have emerged from lively discussions that took place after attending private views and other talks. Taking the initiative to develop their own perspectives on current discussions concerning photography, this group is becoming a social hub for an ever-widening audience.”
