Meet Andrew, who is one of the Class of 2017 on our Graduate Programme and is currently working at De Vere Cranage Estate in the North West.

"I studied Business with Tourism at the University of Chester on a combined honours degree, with a major in Business Studies. When thinking about my career I wanted to work for an established and reputable brand. I really liked the variety that the Graduate programme offers, getting to see every side of the business and changing department every 3-4 months really appealed to me as I could constantly be learning new things.

"My first rotation was in Conference and Banqueting and I’m currently working in Conference developing an SOP for the Meetings Host role.

The best thing for me about the programme is the fact that I’ve learned so much and been had huge amount of training in a very short time. I simply don’t think there would be this much of an emphasis on learning and development anywhere else.

"My next rotation is Front of House, I’m really looking forward to understanding more of the systems in place, and getting involved with more operational tasks, welcoming guests into the property, room allocations, and understanding how Front of House links in with Conference and Banqueting where I will have just come from.

"In the future I’d like to see myself in a position to take on an Operations Manager role, I’d love to get involved with the setting up of a new hotel within the Group. They say if your dreams don’t scare you then they’re not big enough. My advice to someone considering the programme - “Just go for it”. Honestly don’t turn your back on any opportunity, however small it may be, jump in and get involved wherever you can, you only get out what you put in, and remember – any feedback is good feedback, you can always develop."
