Starting university is an exciting time, so here’s a little preview of the many things you have to look forward to when joining the University of Chester.
Your New Home from Home
No matter where you’ll be studying, across all our sites we have great locations for you to explore. It won’t be long until you find your new favourite space to relax with a coffee or grab lunch with friends. Chester is a historical city that has the perfect blend of classic and contemporary. As you get to know the city centre you’ll find many of your familiar favourites alongside an array of unique bars and restaurants. Shrewsbury offers a range of quirky and enigmatic independent local businesses, perfect to grab a drink or bite to eat. While our new Warrington site is right in the heart of the town centre in the newly developed Time Square – putting you at the centre of the best the town has to offer.
Joining a Thriving Community
We pride ourselves on building a real sense of community at Chester where our students can express themselves, affect change and find somewhere they belong. None of our students are ‘just a number’ and staff will get to know you by name. We’re committed to ensuring our University is an inclusive environment – whether it’s our work alongside our Student Race Advocates, our annual Diversity Festival or our involvement in Chester Pride (to name but a few), there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved and find your people.
A Return to Social Learning
We know the past few years have been strange, but we couldn’t be more excited to welcome new students to our learning sites. Our teaching and learning plans for the year ahead have a strong focus on social learning and you’ll have the full student experience with in-person teaching. You’ll not only get to know our staff better by being in the lecture theatre with them, but you’ll be studying alongside students who share your interests and passions, meaning you’ll be making new friends in no time!
Exploring Your Passion or Trying Something New
Are you a Disney obsessive? Maybe you’re into amateur dramatics or you just love walking dogs? No matter what interests you have we have many societies you can join to meet new people who share your passion. But societies are also a great chance to try something new. Perhaps you want to give photography a go? Or maybe you just want to debate who the best Avenger is at the Marvel Society? Either way you’re bound to find a society that’s right for you, and if you’re looking for something more active, our Athletics Union offers lots of sports teams you can join. Whether you’re looking to compete or just have a kick about with mates, there’s plenty to get involved with, ranging from basketball and boxing, to tennis and trampolining.
Meeting Your Personal Academic Tutor
As we mentioned earlier, we don’t want any of our students to fade into the background and your success is our top priority. From day one to the day you graduate you will be supported by your PAT – Personal Academic Tutor. Your PAT will be on-hand throughout your university journey offering advice and guidance on your course. While you’ll have regularly scheduled meeting time with your PAT, our staff are friendly and approachable and many students often meet with their PATs throughout the year beyond the required scheduled sessions as well. Your PAT will be happy to answer any questions you have and point you in the direction of any further support if required.
With all this and much more happening in the year ahead, we can’t wait to welcome you in September. See you soon!
