Book launch to discuss why we need to do better by new mums
While there are plenty of books about how to prepare for the birth of a baby, there’s not quite so many detailing what happens to a mother after their child is born.

It’s this very area that will be discussed at a book launch event this week in which University of Chester Law School Professor Chantal Davies will be in conversation, with Jessica Hatcher-Moore about her new book, After Birth: What Nobody Tells You – How to Recover Body and Mind.
The book, which has been described as ‘essential reading for all new parents’, brings together straight-talking advice on preparation for childbirth, healing, and recovery in the weeks, months, and even years that follow.
It also offers insights for partners, whose role is often overlooked at this critical time.
Professor Davies, a specialist in law, equality and diversity, was amongst the contributors who helped the author with her research for this book and is looking forward to discussing some of the topics raised in the book at the face-to-face and live-streamed event tomorrow, Friday.
She said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be talking to Jess at the launch of After Birth.
After Birth

“For so many years the issues women face immediately following childbirth and for the rest of their lives have not been spoken about. The law and society have yet to catch up with the mental and physical issues mothers face. Women are losing jobs, suffering indignity and shame as a result of the stigma and taboo around the physical and mental consequences following the birth of their children.
“What Jess has done with this book is open up the conversation, break down the taboos and most importantly demand better for future generations.
“This is a book that women who have gone through childbirth will read and at last breathe a sigh of relief that they are not alone and they have been heard.”
Professor Davies will be in conversation with Jessica Hatcher-Moore at the Holroyd Community Theatre, Moreton Hall, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Friday, May 28. The event will also be live-streamed via the University of Chester Law School pages at the following link https://www1.chester.ac.uk/chester-law-school/live-event and via the author’s Instagram page @jessicajanehatcher
