Chester continues to rise in the Complete University Guide.

The University has achieved the biggest rise in the national position, out of all institutions in the North West; and is placed in the top five nationally for Health and Social Care programmes.

Up 12 places from 72nd to 60th nationally (out of 130 institutions) and from 6th to 4th regionally (North West), the University continues to build on its success from last year’s guide, and leaps 34 places from its 2021 rankings.

Every year the Complete University Guide releases UK university and subject league tables to support prospective students in making informed decisions about their future. Regional league tables are also on offer to help people find the right university for them in their area.

The Guide highlighted particular areas of strength and improvement including:

Health and Social Care – The University was placed fifth nationally in the subject of Health Studies (out of 33), up 13 places from last year.

Tourism and Events Management. The programmes narrowly missed out on a top 10 position, with a placing of 11th nationally in the subject of Tourism, Transport, Travel and Heritage Studies (out of 60), and up nine places on the previous year.

• A rise of 16 places for research intensity, with a 2023 position of 56th following the release of the new Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021

Professor Helen O’Sullivan, Provost and Deputy-Vice Chancellor of the University, said: “It is very encouraging to see such a continued improvement in this year’s Complete University Guide league table.

“We’ve already seen the benefits of our Citizen Student strategy since it was launched in the time of the pandemic, and now we are reaping the rewards of preparing our students for careers that will allow them to serve their communities in fields such as health.”

“It is also fantastic to see that our intensified focus on research, which will make a direct impact locally, nationally, and internationally, has been recognised.”

Simon Emmett, Chief Executive Officer of IDP Connect (the Guide is an autonomous division of IDP Education) said: “With more prospective students actively researching their options each year, the 2023 Complete University Guide league tables will serve as an important guide. We believe these rankings help them to make the right decisions as they consider their next steps into higher education.

“The independence of the Complete University Guide remains a critical part of our organisation. The tables’ independence from our other operations ensures that students, parents, and advisors can trust the results and make informed choices based on them.”
