One of the questions we regularly get asked is "What's the nightlife like in Chester?" To give you an idea of what you can expect, we asked current students Aimee and Kate to explain just what they love about the city at night.

Chester’s student nightlife is always a buzz. Whether it be a Social with sports or societies or going for a nice meal with a few friends, Chester offers a variety of things for you to do each night.

My ultimate favourite is Wednesday night Socials - they are amazing! The atmosphere of students out, the crazy costumes you see and not to mention how cheap the drinks are! The main places for a Wednesday night are CH1, The LA, Missoula, Off the Wall and finishing off at Rosies. This is a great way for you to enjoy a night out with your friends and meet new people.

However, if you’re not a big drinker then don’t worry! Chester is filled with various restaurants and other places for you to go. Some personal favourites include; Off the Waffle, Nando's, Funky Cow Milkshake, Breakout Chester and many more. Since Chester is such a small city, these places are within walking distance, so there’s no need for travelling costs. Cheshire Oaks and Chester Zoo are also nearby and these are both great days out, whether it’s with friends or family.

Chester might be a bit smaller than some other cities, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a fab place for a night out! The best night in Chester is undeniably a Wednesday, because that’s when all the sports teams and societies head out.

Each team usually chooses a theme, so we’ve seen about fifty Where’s Wallys at a time, as well as zoo themes and superhero costumes! Most people start with a bit of a pub crawl first, so head to The Bouverie for cheap pitchers of cocktails, the Liverpool Arms (otherwise known as the LA) for some karaoke and £1.50 vodka mixers, and The Bull and Stirrup for the poshest Wetherspoon's you’ll ever see!

Missoula and Off The Wall do free entry for committee members of sports teams and societies (yet another incentive to get involved with that side of uni life), as well as free bottles of bubbly for the whole team. The drinks are really affordable and you’d be a fool not to try a 'Bazza' at some point in your three years in Chester - who doesn’t love cherry sourz, vodka and lemonade?!

If you’re wanting to go out on a Friday night, the Students’ Union is where you need to go. The SU has cheap entry, cheap drinks, and a back room that’s always buzzing. It’s great because it’s on campus and you’ll definitely see half of the people from your course there!

The two clubs in town, Rosies and Cruise, host so many student nights, from Battle of the Halls - a great way to bond with everyone in your accommodation - to meet-and-greets with celebrities. I loved meeting the Chuckle Brothers and Steve McFadden (Eastenders' Phil Mitchell!) in Rosies. We’ve also had Basshunter perform in Cruise for the Christmas-themed nightout, which was a fab way to end the term.

The only way to finish a night out is with a kebab or some cheesy chips (with curry sauce or gravy, of course), so make sure you pop by Go Fresco or Blue Lagoon on your way back home.

See you in September for a Bazza and a trip to Rosies!
