Clearing Campus Tours are an excellent opportunity for you to really get a feel for what it’s like to be a student at the University of Chester. We understand though that with different restrictions in place over the past year, you may not have had a chance to have a look around Universities until now. That’s why we want to help you prepare well in advance of your campus tour, to make sure you really get the most out of the experience, especially if you’ve never been on one before. We’ve put together some of our ‘top tips’ so you’ll know exactly how to get the most out of the experience on the day.
Allow plenty of time
Choosing a University is a big decision so you don’t want to feel like you to have to rush when you come to visit us. It’s a good idea on the day of your tour to allow plenty of time for travel and to get your bearings. You’ll receive complimentary refreshments as part of your campus tour so it’s not the end of the world if you arrive early – you can grab a drink and relax!
Prepare your questions
As part of your tour, you’ll have chance to speak with an academic from the department so have a think about any questions you may want to ask them about your course. Are you interested in what the timetable could look like in September or perhaps how many other students will be studying alongside you? Whatever it is, there’s no harm in making a note of your questions before you arrive – just so you don’t forget!
This also applies to when you’re chatting to our student ambassadors. The tours are student-led so you’ll have plenty of chance to chat to the students and ask them about their own experiences at the University. When it comes to student life, they really are the experts!
Think about what matters to you
It’s important that you personally feel like you’ve seen everything you need to see on your campus tour. If you’re in two minds about anything, now is the time for you to get all the information you need so you’re ready for September. For example, are you torn between commuting or living in student accommodation? In this instance, it would be a good idea to take a look at the accommodation options available on the day and see if this helps you with your decision. This is your chance to really get a feel for the University so make the most of the opportunity. Don’t be afraid to ask our ambassadors about their own experiences – they’re very friendly and always happy to help.
Explore the area
Once you’ve finished your tour, it’s a good idea to head into town and check out the surrounding area. It’s useful to get your bearings and work out what’s just around the corner! Chester, Warrington and Shrewsbury have a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants – as well as large open spaces if you just fancy taking a stroll. Our ambassadors always have some great recommendations so see if they can point you in the direction of somewhere!
