Hi everyone, it’s Hayley here with this week’s blog post. As you might already know, we are always looking for volunteers to write guest blog posts for our alumni blog. Whether you want to tell us about your career since graduating, or you have a story to share about your time in Chester, we would love to hear about it!

I have put together some top tips to help you with writing a blog post…

1. Write about what you know and enjoy – not only is it easier for you to write about topics you are familiar with and knowledgeable about, the reader will enjoy it more if you’re passionate!

2. Introduce yourself at the start of the blog – people are more likely to engage if they feel a connection to the blogger and will likely return to read more if you feature again!

3. Keep the reader engaged – we ask that blogs are between 500-800 words long. Don’t worry if you exceed this, we can edit it for you.

4. Include photos – an eye-catching photo can make the blog look more appealing and make people want to read it. Strike a pose!

5. Keep the tone conversational – treat it as if you’re telling a story to a friend! You can always include a hyperlink to definitions/further explanations if needed, and this won’t alter the tone of the post.

7. Keep the reader hooked – you can always split a blog into more than one part, or create a series. Let us know your ideas, we would love to hear them!

8. Look at what is trending – if there is a particular trend on social media or an event coming up that links well to your blog, let us know. We can post your blog to coincide with these types of things.
