Our Undergraduate Virtual Open Days are taking place on Saturday 10th October, Saturday 7th November and Saturday 5th December from 11am to 3pm.  You can register for your place here – and in the meantime, this blog will tell you what you need to know, from what information will be available to where you can find everything.

Finding Your Way Around

There are key areas you’ll want to know about for our Virtual Open Day, so we’ve broken them all down for you here. When you land on the homepage of the virtual event, you’ll see these different areas, which are all below.

Our Courses

As the name suggests, this is where you can find out lots of information about the course (or courses) you’re interested in. This area is broken down by department, but maybe you aren’t sure which department your course sits in - you can take a look at our departments here. If you’re still unsure on the day, all you need to do is go to the ‘Help Desk’ on the homepage and someone will be there on a live chat to help you. Once you’re in a department’s area there will be things like videos, course leaflets, useful links to more information and the opportunity to live text or video chat with lecturers.

Useful Tip: Departments are split in to 'booths.' So, if anyone refers to a booth, this is what they mean.

Lecture Hall

At a usual Open Day there’d be different talks for you to attend, from Welcome Talks to course talks, and presentations from support teams at the University. So, for our virtual event we’re putting all of these talks in one place for you, so you can have a look through them and watch the ones you’re interested in. You’ll be able to access these at any point during the Virtual Open Day.

Student Services

There is plenty going on in this area, so it’s well worth a visit. Here, you can find out more about the Students’ Union, sport teams at the University and fitness facilities available to our students. It’s also where our Study Abroad and Work Based Learning teams will be based, so if you’re interested in a bit of adventure while you study, or would like to get more information about the work placements on offer, this is the place to come. It’s also where you can get information, advice and guidance on important things like accommodation, admissions, and finance and funding. Plus, it’s where you can find out more about the support we offer our students at the University. This ranges from study skills support, through to support with mental health and wellbeing.

Our Campuses

Whether you’re looking to find out more about our sites in Chester, Warrington or Shrewsbury, this is the place to come to. There will be campus tour videos, image galleries, useful links and our team will be on hand to answer your questions via the live chat.

International

This area will have lots of information for those who live abroad, including some key points about the University of Chester, the admissions process for international students, finance options and accommodation. There will also be advice about making visa applications, as well as planning your arrival.

Chat to Students

In this area you can talk to current students to get more of an idea about what life at the University of Chester is all about, whether your questions are about the campus, the surrounding area or their experience with our academics, our students will be here to give you as much information as you need.

Resources

There will be all kinds of information in this section that you’ll be able to add to your bag, so make sure you pay it a visit. You don’t have to look through everything there and then, if you add them to your bag you can take a look at them later.

Help Desk

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, this is the place to come. Don’t worry if there’s anything you’re unsure of - we’re a friendly bunch and can help you out in no time.

Make sure you don’t miss…

Meetings

Some of our academic departments and student services have set up Meetings to run during the Open Day. These are chats that will cover particular topics, so we suggest that you take a look if there are any Meetings running for the course/s you’re interested in when you log in to the Virtual Open Day. For course-specific Meetings, you can do this by going to the Our Courses area and selecting the department the course sits in. If you’re not sure which is the correct department, have a look at our list here or just go to the Helpdesk on the day and ask a member of staff. Once you’re in a department area, if you see a ‘Meetings’ icon, click on this to view the list of Meetings available for you to book on to. For meetings that are specific to our Student Services, go to the Student Services area, select which section you’re interested in, for example, Admissions, and you’ll be able to see if there are any Meetings going ahead. If you do see a Meeting you’d like to attend, don’t forget to click ‘Book’ to save your space. If there aren’t any Meetings running in the area or course you’d like to know more about– don’t worry. You can use the Live Chat to find out any information you’d like to know or any topics you’d like to discuss. Meetings can be text or video, so make sure you choose the one for you.

Live Chat

Our staff and students are available from 11am to 3pm to answer all your questions. You can put your questions to the staff and students from your course in 'Our Courses', chat to current students and other Open Day visitors in the 'Chat to Students' Networking Lounge, and get your questions answered about all things Finance and Accommodation by visiting 'Student Services.' There are also lots of other people available to chat to, including Student Support, Study Abroad, the Students' Union, and Sport and Active Lifestyle.

As well as text chat, you can also attend video meetings should you wish to put a face to a name. Our Departments will be running regular video meetings throughout the day - just visit their virtual booth and select 'Meetings.'

Welcome Talk

This is being delivered by our Vice-Chancellor (VC), Professor Eunice Simmons, and President of Chester Students' Union, El.  Perhaps you haven’t heard of a VC before, but they’re really important when it comes to a university (they pretty much run the show). During this talk you’ll be able to learn what we’re about as a university, the opportunities we provide to our students, and all the things you have to look forward to. This can be accessed at any point during the Open Day in the Lecture Hall.

Course Talk

Be sure to watch the talks of any courses you’re interested in. You’ll find out more about the Programme Leader of the course; get an overview of the course content and opportunities like placements and studying abroad, learn what’s unique about the course and also get an idea of the different career paths that completing the course can lead to.

Don’t forget…

Your Bag

As you make your way through the Open Day, you’ll be able to add all kinds of things to your bag, which you’ll be able to look through later. This may be things like course leaflets, information on accommodation and finance, or more detail about the support services at the University. You can choose whatever you’d like to add to your bag (the big plus being, you can add as much as you like without the hassle of actually carrying it).
