Shrewsbury is a beautiful town in Shropshire, England. It is a popular tourist destination, thanks to its rich history and culture. From its picturesque streets and historic landmarks to its vibrant cultural scene and natural beauty, Shrewsbury has something to captivate everyone's interest, even if it means to simply enjoying the scenery. In this blog, I’m going to highlight some of the best ways to make the most of your leisure time in Shrewsbury with an example of what a typical free day for me looks like.

First, I’d visit the Quarry Park, because the view alone is a great way to start my day. Nestled along the banks of the River Severn, the Quarry Park is a lovely spot where you can unwind and immerse yourself in nature. Take a leisurely stroll through the park's beautifully landscaped gardens, relax by the river, or enjoy a picnic on the expansive fields. The park also hosts various events and festivals throughout the year, making it an ideal spot for a fun day out.

Afterwards, I’d recommend taking a visit to the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery. For art enthusiasts, this visit is a must. Housed in an impressive building, the museum showcases a diverse range of exhibits, from ancient Roman artefacts to contemporary artwork. The museum is open from 10am to 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Theatre Severn is another cultural gem, offering an array of performances, including theatre, dance, and live music.

Another great thing to do is taking a boat trip on the River Severn. The River Severn runs through Shrewsbury and is a great way to see the town from a different perspective. This can be done by hiring a boat to enjoy a tranquil cruise down the river, practising paddleboarding, or even joining a guided kayak tour to explore the waterways while admiring the town's scenic beauty from a different point. Also, the Shropshire Hills is a beautiful area of countryside that is perfect for hiking.

Next, I’d recommend visiting one of Shrewsbury's many restaurants. From traditional British pubs serving hearty meals to international cuisines and fine dining experiences, there's no shortage of gastronomic delights to satisfy your palate. Don't miss the chance to try the famous Shrewsbury biscuits, a local delicacy that's been enjoyed for centuries.

There are also a variety of festivals to attend, depending on the time of the year such as Shrewsbury Food Festival, Loop Fest and Shropshire Oktober Festival. These festivals feature a variety of musical performances, food, and drinks.

Last but not least, enjoy the nightlife in Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury has a vibrant nightlife, with many pubs, clubs, and restaurants to choose from. You can enjoy delicious pizzas at Dough & Oil, unique cocktails at Blind Tiger and live music at Albert’s Shed.

These are just a few ideas of things to do in Shrewsbury in your free time. There are many other activities available, so you're sure to find something to keep you entertained. Shrewsbury offers a wealth of experiences for those seeking to make the most of their free time.
