India Campbell-Hall - Postgraduate Student

Why did you choose to study MA Languages, Culture and Translation with us?

I studied BA (Hons) Spanish, French and Mandarin Chinese at The University of Chester. I liked the look of the course content and I wanted to continue being a part of the University and be a student. I figured the job market would be all evened out by the time I finished my Master's. I wanted to expand on my language competency and hone in on my translation skills.

How do you fund your postgraduate study?

I applied for a postgraduate loan, did an internship in my first year and lots of different part-time jobs before that alongside my studies,  I was lucky to have the Graduate Loyalty Discount on the course for being a returning student - it definitely made a huge difference with being able to pay tuition fee costs.

How are you enjoying your postgraduate study?

I have found it really stimulating and engaging but also very challenging to get good grades, particularly when it was my first year of the masters during the pandemic. I have learned so much from it in terms of expanding my specialist knowledge but it is a huge step up from undergraduate studies.

How well are you supported as a postgraduate student?

I have contacted Disability and Inclusion for dyslexia support tutor help with time-planning, meeting deadlines and structuring ideas. I have also had help from the Wellbeing team where I will be having a CBT screening test soon.

How do you organise your postgraduate study alongside your friends and family, work and other existing commitments?

My social life is very key to wellbeing I would say and important to me. I have a deadliner app on my phone and use colour coordination for mapping out all my deadlines. I have a word document with all the assignment due dates and I put all these in my google calendar. With my dyslexia I am able to apply for extensions for meeting assignment deadlines.
